Sweet 16 and Elite Eight Will Return to Memphis in 2021

The NCAA awarded FedExForum with the 2021 South Regional Semifinals and Final in 2021


The NCAA announced today that Memphis will host the South Regional Semifinals and Final of the Men's Division I basketball tournament at FedExForum for a fourth time in 2021.


Following the success of this year's regional weekend which included North Carolina, Kentucky UCLA, and Butler, Kevin Kane, Director and CEO of the Memphis Vistors and Conventions Bureau, mentioned on the Geoff Calkins Show that Memphis had indeed again submitted a bid to host the event for a fourth time. Today, he learned that bid was accepted.


FedExForum previously hosted the South Regional semifinals and final during 2009 and 2014 in addition to the last moth's event, which was won by eventual national-champion North Carolina.


Other cities that were selected to host the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight games along with Memphis in 2021 are Brooklyn, NY (Barclays Center), Minneapolis, Minn. (Target Center), and Denver, Colo. The winners of each regional will meet in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium for the 2021 Final Four.


The NCAA also announced that Kansas City, Louisville, Washington D.C., and Anaheim will host the regionals in 2019, Los Angeles, Houston, Indianaplois, and New York City in 2020, and Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Francisco, and Chicago in 2022.
